This was an amazing game of cricket producing no fewer than 465 runs in an afternoon. The run festival was basically a combination of a small boundary and a lightening fast outfield.
Defeat may have been the end result, but the pinks must enjoy the positives and not dwell on the negative aspects. Andy Underwood hit a brilliant maiden century, and Jim weighed in with a maiden half century. Their partnership totalled 132, a club record. At tea, Rosaneri were on top of the world and the total amassed seemed to have put the team in a match winning situation.
However, home advantage and some adventurous hitting ensured that Edmonton were soon on top of the run chase. So much so, that after 10 overs they were 100 for 1.
Defending any total on this particular pitch would have been difficult, and ultimately wickets were needed to secure victory. Rosaneri had a good go, but just came up short.
Player notebook –
Alfieri – Got Rosaneri off to a flyer with the bat and fielded immaculately.
Leigh – Fell short of his amazingly high standards with the bat, but took a lovely catch and captained well on a very difficult pitch.
Underwood – Brilliant is the only description needed of his innings. Worked hard early on to get things going and then set about compiling a personal best score. Also kept wicket very well.
Cox – Batted well until disaster struck well clean bowled. Fielded brilliantly and saved numerous runs, also took 2 catches which is not bad for a man on one leg after playing football in the morning.
Downing – Batted patiently and supported Andy superbly. Is in real form with the bat now and can’t want the season to end. However, will probably want to forget his one and only over. Bowled with a tiny leg side boundary, to a powerful batsman in the rudest of touch……the rest is history.
S.Shewring – Came in at the end of the innings and smashed a quick 20 with some lusty blows. Only bowled 2 overs, but extracted bounce from the pitch and picked up 2 wickets. Also made a difficult catch look easy.
Freeman – Bowled really well and got Rosaneri right back in contention by slowing down an alarmingly high run rate. Unlucky not to get more reward in terms of wickets.
N.Shewring – Opened the bowling and picked up 2 wickets and was another who suffered with the tiny boundary on one side. The small boundary made it really difficult to take wickets and keep the runs down.
Sindrey – Bowled 8 straight overs. Started slowly, but soon picked up to bowl a lovely spell on a difficult pitch for bowlers. Very unlucky not to pick up a wicket with a thick outside edge that flew past where slip would have been.
Rose – Opened the bowling and mixed up good with bad. Never the less a tidy spell considering the pitch dimensions. Probably also felt the effects of 90 minutes football from earlier in the day.
Shuttlewood – Fielded to a very high standard. Came on to bowl in difficult circumstances with batsmen set and the game drifting away from Rosaneri’s grasp. However, returned good figures considering and certainly has a future as a bowler.
