Extra Extra, read all about it

It was a mixed evening for the Pinks as although ultimately they limited Edmonton Teachers to a target that was within reach of the batsmen, the amount of extras were of major concern.

46 extras were added to the Edmonton Teachers total in 20 overs which is unacceptable even for a wet and cold evening in the field. But further statistical breakdown is even more concerning, as 30 of the extras were wides.

Giving away this many free runs is ultimately going to limit our winning opportunities. So the bowlers need to take stock and make every effort to attend nets and attempt to build consistency.

Extras aside, the fielding was very good in difficult conditions and the bowling limited the opposition to only 80 runs off the bat.

Rain intervened and cost Rosaneri the chance of getting a total well within reach of a powerful batting line up.

Player notebook:

Leigh – Captained brilliantly and managed to get 9 players a game of cricket in only half a contest. Also had a direct hit run out.

Hooper – Bowled well enough, but did not show his sparkle from the net sessions.

Alfieri – Made an early fielding mistake, but came back really strongly. Even started thinking like a cricketer by adjusting his own position when needed.

Underwood – Made a fabulous diving effort at a catch, but his bowling was very uncharacteristic. Usually the master of economy, he got wickets but went for 9+ an over.

Sparrey – Bowled in an accurate fashion and added control for the skipper when he needed it. Regulation catch safely held.

Tyrrell – Did not keep to the same standard as the previous day, and seemed to be ready for Chase Farm after every delivery. Still managed a trademark stumping though.

Downing – Didn’t give away a single extra and was another who added control for the skipper.

Rose – Opened the bowling and bowled a full mix of great balls and wides. The batsmen didn’t know what was coming next, but nor did the bowler.

S.Shewring – Came on as a death bowler and did a nice job against attacking batsmen.

N.Shewring – Bowled really well and returned excellent figures. Probably unlucky with a few wides because of a particularly harsh umpire.

Freeman – Bowled fast and wild. The consistency of the day before was replaced by raw and unpredictable pace bowling.
