Rosaneri go down fighting

Make no mistake, this was a brave effort by Rosaneri Cricket Club who in the end just fell short.

Farnham were a well drilled and experienced cricket team who were probably the best team that RCC have taken on. Their side was almost entirely made up of low twenty somethings who knew how to play cricket.

Rosaneri lost the toss and were asked to bat. The opening bowlers were of high quality and the pinks soon found themselves in a tight corner at 10 for 2.

However, Rosaneri debutant Sean Adamson dropped anchor and set about building one of the most watchful innings seen in the club’s history. Together with Bloater at first and then Jim he became the rock which Farnham could not move.

The Rosaneri batsmen grafted hard and worked their way to nearly making the 40 overs and to respectable total of 106.

The bowling and fielding was superb and with another 20 runs from the bat a victory may have been secured.

A great day out in a wonderful location and Rosaneri have proved they are no pushover.

Player notebook:

Tyrrell – Got bowled by a jaffa. Totally unplayable and would have taken any club batsman’s wicket. Kept wicket well, and took a nice catch and stumping.

Alfieri – Faced some of the best bowling he has ever seen. Unlucky to have been thrown in at the deep end.

Underwood – Got himself going, but will be disappointed to have holed out when he did.

Adamson – Made a brilliant debut and spent what felt like hours at the crease for a patient 19. Really steadied the ship and looked compact when defending and elegant in the stroke. Certainly has a big future as an ad hoc squad player.

Rose – Played as a batsmen in this contest at his own personal request. Looked thoroughly determined and made double figures before getting excited at the site of a spinner. May have finally shaken off the shackles of number 11. Also took a brilliant catch in the field.

S.Shewring – Unlucky with an LBW decision while batting. Never really got going when bowling, but did remove one of the openers.

Downing – Captained well and top scored with the bat. Another very patient knock that was finally ended by a brilliant backward diving one handed catch. Caught Farnham’s best batsmen with a super catch that was celebrated in the style of Monty Panesar and David Pleat.

Freeman – Bowled his best spell ever for Rosaneri CC and was unlucky not to end up with a hatful of wickets. Came back for his last 2 overs and bowled 2 maidens.

N.Shewring – Looked Comfortable with the bat, but played a misjudged shot when looking set. Bowled well and took 2 wickets, and also had one dropped.

Shuttlewood – Late flourish with the bat, and bowled ok if a little expensive. However, did take the most important wicket.

Williams – Never really got a chance with the bat before his partner was out. Bowled very nicely from the difficult uphill end, got one wicket and was unlucky when a dropped catch cost him his second.
