As the dust settles on a fantastic two days in the club’s history, it gives a good opportunity for a few important things to be noted for the future smooth running of the club.
Firstly, a big well done must be recorded for all the players involved in either night of glorious Twenty/20 action. The games were played in the right spirit, and the team togetherness was apparent for all to see. But just as important is that a big thank you must be recorded for the Rosaneri supporters that turned up. Special praise here must go Levsy and Sean who turned up to both matches.
Secondly, we come onto the subject of kit. On both nights we had jokers turning up without their proper regulation kit. The rule on kit is simple. We will always play in white trousers and shoes. The only thing that can be variable is the shirt. The general rule is as follows. If we are playing a Twenty/20 fixture the chances are you will need your pink shirt. If we are playing a 40 over game we will always wear white. Just to be sure though, it is common sense to pack not only your pink shirt but also a spare white one.
So to clarify: Twenty/20 = Pink shirt, but pack a spare white one.
40 over match = White shirt.
Thirdly, we tackle the initially problematic area of umpiring and scoring. The improvement from the opening day of the season has been amazing. The attitude of many players has been really refreshing for club officials as not only have people learnt what they needed to know, but people are doing things without having to be asked. For both Twenty/20 games all playing members were faultless.
And finally, we come onto the subject of money. The £10 per match charge has been lightly questioned, so I will use this opportunity to clarify why it has been set as such. The two recent games serve as a great example of why we need so much money and need it on the day. At Enfield on Thursday only £5 from all the match fees made its way into the club tin. Not only did we have to pay for the pitch, but we also hire Enfield on the understanding that we put some money behind the bar. Some players stayed on after the match and enjoyed 2 or 3 drinks on the club. We could have charged everyone £5 and shot off after the match without spending a penny in the bar, but chances are we would then never get the chance to play there again.
The match on Friday night was away, so we had no pitch hire fee. Our only cost was providing a decent match ball. So all money collected literally went on a couple of rounds of drinks. On Friday £50 made its way back into the club tin.
We are still slightly behind on finance as the club has recently spent nearly £200 on the first issue of club caps. Other equipment is regularly purchased and money is obviously needed to book nets for practice. Any surplus at the end of the season will be made public on the website.
This has been a great week for the club, so please keep up the good work.
