Bouncing bomb wins it for Rozzers

Rosaneri claimed their second win in two days thanks to a great all round team effort where everyone played a vital role.

The toss was lost and Rosaneri were asked to bat. This was probably just as well as Marcus was stuck on the M25 at Heathrow. The Pinks started the game with 10 and the teachers started the game with only 9 as a couple of their players had to cry off at the very last moment.

Make no mistake though, this was not a walk in the park against 9 men as the teachers had their two daddies present and correct.

The pinks began promisingly with the bat, but it ended up being the Andy Underwood road show. Andy made a pudding of a pitch look easy to play on and raced to his first ever half century. He was well supported throughout, but no one else really going on to make a score. Particular mention goes to Robsie and Coxy who both added runs and hung around to support the big man.

The bowling was all about taking wickets with a very small total to defend. Rosaneri fielded with vigour and the balance of the game fluctuated throughout. Rosaneri kept the run rate down early on, but then the teachers worked themselves into a winning position. But a flurry of wickets saw the pinks home.

Player notebook:

Tyrrell – Batted with authority and looked set for a score, but his non walking reputation caught up with him as he was triggered for a snick heard in Croydon. Kept wicket again to a very high standard.

Alfieri – Never got going with the bat, but did set excellent standards as usual with his fielding.

Underwood – Has now completed the transformation into a batting god. Played a superbly controlled innings to record his first ever half century. Also took a great catch to dismiss one of the daddy batsmen.

Freeman – Returned brilliant Twenty/20 bowling figures for the second night running. More importantly though, he delivered the final wicket when his Captain asked for it. Steady effort with the bat until given to a disputed lbw decision.

Tona – A lovely cameo knock with the bat, and helped to up the run rate at a crucial time. Also fielded well to help the pinks over the line.

Cox – Scored enough runs to continue his upward curve in form and supported Bloater to great effect. His sharp and reliable fielding is now expected.

S.Shewring – Was a major factor in the bowling triumph, but came into bat in difficult circumstances.

N.Shewring – Opened the bowling and returned super figures. Got a deserved wicket with his second last ball. However, the batting average has sunk lower than the Titanic.

Downing – A real Jekyll and Hyde bowling performance that ultimately turned the game back Rosaneri’s way. Bowled two dangerous batsmen in a 2 wicket maiden over, but also bowled 3 full tosses to a daddy batsman who dispatched them all for 6.

Shuttlewood – Has now completed his re-branding to being a nagging left arm medium pace bowler. Kept the ball in the right areas and deservedly grabbed the opening batsman’s wicket.

Rose – Turned up late and missed the Rosaneri innings. However, his bowling did win the match for Rosaneri. It was probably the worst ball he bowled all night, but after the second bounce it crashed into the stumps and dismissed the oppo’s top batsman on 40.
