Brilliant bowling seals victory

Rosaneri claimed their first win of the season in emphatic style in a rain affected stroll at Lincoln Road. The match had to be reduced to 14 overs per side after rain had caused a delay to the start time.

Some may be thinking that Neil Tilley produced a one man show that grossly influenced the result. This however, could not be further from the truth. The game was won with some super bowling and brilliant fielding which limited Jack of Diamonds to 77 runs in their 14 overs.

Rosaneri began their batting with the threat of rain ending the game, and quickly set about the task. Victory looked set after the first ball when Tills walked into a perfect cover drive and smashed it for four. But it was not all about Tills. Bloater stepped up to the plate and hit a immaculate 35 to see Rosaneri home inside 8 overs.

As the final runs were scampered, the heavens opened and victory had been assured with seconds to spare.

Player notebook:

Tilley – Fielded well and lived up to all the billing with the bat. Put on a real show for spectators hitting three 6’s in a brilliant 39 before retiring. One 6 narrowly missing a parked Jaguar in Wellington Road.

Cox – Got a couple of runs and looked set for a good knock before getting bowled by a full toss.

Bloater – Absolutely brilliant and demonstrated what a fine talent he is. Never gave a chance as he battered a good bowling attack. Even managed to copy Tills with a thumping 6.

Sparrey – Captained with the minimum of fuss and didn’t put a foot wrong. Nudged 2 runs in 2 balls as the rains moved in.

Tyrrell – Kept wicket in a very assured manner. Looked solid and took a nice catch in a confident display. Although booming shouts of, “Keeper hard” did cause confusion amongst spectators.

Downing – Bowled well and took a nice wicket. Also picked up a golden fielder point by involvement in the run out.

S.Shewring – His figures do not really reflect that he bowled a nice little neat and tidy spell. Was unfortunate to be bowling to their danger man who soon raced to his retirement score.

N.Shewring – Came on to bowl the death overs and could not have bowled them any better. Kept it very tight and still threatened to take wickets, and only went for 9 runs in 2 overs.

Freeman – Brilliant opening spell that probably won Rosaneri the match. Unbelievably bowled 2 maidens in 3 overs in a demonstration of perfect containment bowling.

Shuttlewood – Bowled a nice left arm round the wicket and returned excellent Twenty/20 figures. Showed more than enough to secure more overs in future games. However, must remember to get behind the stumps once he has bowled the ball to assist the fielders.

Rose – Left the field with a big grin on his face as he knew he had got one over on his brother. Bowled his 2 overs well and was another who returned great Twenty/20 figures.
