Vs The Cotswolds
Saint Slaps is probably the greatest sportsman that ever lived!
The match was almost a side show after this incredible act of sportsmanship. Rosaneri were on their knees and pleading for mercy at 80 for 8 when Slaps walked after the most minor feather touch in the world that was so fine that absolutely nobody appealed!
The intensity of the match situation would surely have even seen Mother Theresa wait for the umpire. Slaps however had no hesitation in tucking the bat under his arm and marching off. Rosaneri salutes you sir.
The early Rosaneri batsmen had mostly thrown their wickets away and a few were unlucky, but even when the politeness of the match at 7 down was crying out for run feeding to make the journey worthwhile the home captain simply turned the screw and brought on his best two bowlers!
The Rosaneri tail genuinely earnt every last run and somehow we posted a far too light 110. Paul and Mat being the real stars.
Tea was splendid and enjoyed by all.
Captain Marcus rallied the troops and everyone went out feeling we would give it a real go.
The home side made a very slow start, but din't lose any wickets. The run rate was on par, but the pinks needed wickets.
Then came a moment direct from the late 80s. Captain Fashanu (Marcus) got in the ear of Vinnie Jones Freeman to wind him right up and unleash batting hell! After the initial breakthrough Fash kept on asking for faster and faster bowling and in the ultimate 80's throwback Fash publically declared, "Slow down for this kid Mat", and then threw gritted teeth whispered in Mat's ear, "Smash those f**king stumps in half!"
The virtual instant dismissal of the daddy was the highlight and the Rosaneri faithful had genuine hope of an unlikely victory.
Shortly afterwards Mike had a chance to take a worldy catch, that could have seen us go on to win, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
However, the Cotswolds dug in and gradually ticked off the runs until they eventually closed out victory.
Coxy bowled very nicely to snaffle the 5th wicket and there were good spells from Nick and Bloater, but in the end RCC's lack of runs told.
Congratulations are of course offered to our hosts, but more congratulations must be offered to Saint Slaps who performed an act that is unfortunately way too rare these days.
