Vs Nazeing Common CC Sunday 2nd XI
This was actually a great start to the season even though we lost!
Out of politeness we had to bat first due to the fact a car full of our players were half hour away from the ground at kick off time.
This turned out to be a result in retrospect as it meant that the RCC batsmen could ease themselves in gently without th added pressure of a run chase.
Jim and Mike opened proceedings and got off to a steady start. Mike's departure was quickly followed by Charlie to leave Rosaneri on the edge of poorness.
However, the Fonz wondered out to deliver a masterclass in selective attacking strokeplay and the scoreboard rapidly moved forward. The swagger down the wicket to hit the perfect straight six will live in the memory of RCC fans for a long time.
Cuz continued the attacking once the Fonz was stumped and returned a cameo 38 in double quick time.
During the attack phase, Jim simply kept himself warm at the other end in hibernation mode!
Eventually Rosaneri recorded a respectable 189 for 8 and declared.
The Nazeing innings started very slowly as the Rosaneri bowlers kept it tight.
The call came for Cuz to make the breakthrough and he delivered two in quick succession. This opened the game, but unfortunately two superb 1st XI standard batsmen got together and accumulated more and more until they reached the total required.
Stephen Underwood must take great credit for some wonderful bowling, but the pinks just couldn't get the extra wicket they so badly needed. It should also be noted that Big Mike was superb behind the stumps.
This was indeed a good start, and should stand us in good order for the weeks ahead.
