Vs Buckhurst Hill

Victory at Buckhurst Hill was something that even the most loyal RCC fans never really thought would be a reality. But thanks to a great team effort and one of those days it did.

Things started extremely positively when Mr Bell won the toss while Slaps was still trying to locate the ground. Bell asked Aadil to get his pads on as Rosaneri were going to have a bowl.

The well constructed Buckhurst opening bat started like he had been asked to have enough on the board after 20 overs for Aadil to declare, and he promptly smashed double figures off Mat's opening over.

Luckily Sinders came to the rescue by cleaning up the stumps with a smart piece of bowling. The importance of this wicket in the game scenario cannot be underestimated.

Enter stage door right..............Aadil in sunglasses.

A good period for the home team followed with plenty of runs being added and not many chances being generated.

Jim and Darren then came on for a consecutive straight 18 overs and the run rate slowed and a few wickets were accumulated. Jim occasionally ruining excellent work by adding the odd full toss.

During this better period for the pinks Paul took one of those amazing catches that are usually dropped 99 times out of a 100. In fact the ball spent so long in the air that Marcus had time to load the Betfair App and empty his account on drop at 1.01. Luckily for Marcus the server crashed, but Paul didn't. Aadil gone.

Nick came on for a nicely controlled spell and then Mat and Paul finished off what had been a tough session in the field for RCC.

It felt like we had done ok, but after the recent weeks of batting the travelling support were a million miles away from confident of a successful run chase.

Mike and Bell started the reply brilliantly combining well run singles with aggressive hitting. In no time at all 50 runs were on the board and spirits on the sidelines were high.

During this spell of bat dominating ball Mr Bell unveiled his second “Real time living sculpture”.

The first entitled, “The slaying of young Jack at Lincoln Road” had gone down a storm with the Paris critics, so his second piece had to be very very good. And boy was it.

“The biggest tree does not always hold the safest nest“ was indeed a masterpiece. A straight six of gigantic proportions was still on the upward curve as it hit a mighty oak in front of the Aadil media centre. The crowd literally whooped and shrieked with delight as this true work of art wrote itself into Rosaneri folklore.

The impromptu art show actually disrupted the concentration enough to prompt a mini collapse.

However, Darren was so inspired that he set about embarking on the still considerable run chase.

Timing and elegance from Darren greeted every ball and the scoreboard started whiz round.

Nick and Slaps played nice cameo support roles, but Darren was on a mission to bring home the victory. 6's and 4's were dispatched to all parts of the ground and with 10 overs to go the travelling fans began to believe.

Darren then pressed the accelerator even harder to record a maiden century for the club, and when the winning runs inevitably were posted, everyone’s favourite Neighbour since Kylie Minogue had smashed 118 of only 70 balls !!

A great day of banter, a very competitive game, the unveiling of a living sculpture, and a perfect result. What more could you ask for ?!
