There was a touch of more of the same here, but this game was in fact a massive step forward for Rosaneri CC in terms of run rate management when chasing a large total.
The Rosaneri bowlers started in a tidy fashion, but it was just one of those days when half chances just didn't materialise and wickets just wouldn't fall. Not only this, but every time the opening batsmen hit the ball they seemed to find a gap and record a boundary.
At 200 for no wicket with plenty of overs left we were literally starring down the barrel of a fully loaded shotgun ! However, Mat made the breakthrough and things just started to happen.
In the end with the help of some superb death overs the home team were amazingly restricted to 268.
It should be noted that Paul bowled very nicely on his comeback, and Stephen's figures unfairly reflected how well he bowled.
If last week was a warm up for tea of the year, this week was the Coronation ceremony. Tummies were packed full and an energetic run chase didn't seem likely.
Mr Bell and Big Mike hadn't read the script though and the chase started with vigour. Soon we were actually ahead of the rate with Box Office Bell at his flashy best. So much so, that after 9 overs the oppo ex County pro brought himself on to target the wicket of the Rosaneri talisman.
By his own admission Mr Bell played a bad shot and he was back in the hutch. Mike continued the great start, but unfortunately was well caught just before raising his bat for another 50.
Marcus, Jim and Rahul kept things ticking, but wickets started to tumble and despite great cameos from Nick and Stephen the game was up.
What was really encouraging though was the fact that we never let the run rate get into Disneyland proportions.
