Keep the score moving

The next game is just around the corner, so it is time to take stock of what has happened already this season and to look at what needs attention as we move forward.

So far we have suffered two defeats from the opening two fixtures, and the obvious point of concern has to be the overall team batting. There have been individual performances to buck this worrying trend, but the experienced players within our ranks have not done enough to steady the ship at crucial times.

The focus must shift to a higher level when we are batting in order for us to be able to compete when we get to the business end of the game. I am aware that not everyone can get to the nets due to time and location, but this weeks session is vital to get everyone ready for the differing demands of Twenty/20. So a big turn out this Wednesday will go a long way to ensure that we at least give ourselves the best possible chance.

Twenty/20 cricket is all about keeping the scoreboard moving while batting and it is vital that we make sure this happens. Batsmen can “play themselves in”, by blocking and taking a quick single. For this to work, both batsmen must be tuned in and on the same wavelength. The boundaries will follow, when your eye is in, and in the process you will have succeeded in keeping the scoreboard ticking.
