No more excuses

The first two games of the season have revealed a serious lack of knowledge amongst the Rosaneri playing staff. Articles have previously been posted on the website to combat this problem, and reference has been made to players who are unsure asking for advice.

The main focus of the problem centres around scoring and umpiring. Experienced players have rightly taken the brunt of the duty in the first two matches, but it has been noticeable that the inexperienced players have run for cover when the call of duty has come knocking on their door. This is particularly unacceptable from the 11 centrally contracted players.

For scoring, if you are unsure please use your time wisely while not at the crease by sitting next to the experienced scorer and observe what is expected. If you have questions, please ask, and the scorer will only be too happy to explain. We are not expecting you to be brilliant over night, but the excuses must stop.

For umpiring, watch closely what is happening in the middle and again if you are unsure of a signal, ask an experienced sidelined player. The signals are all very simple, and are basically explained on the BBC website. This particular website is also a great way of learning the rules of cricket. May I suggest that you first visit The Rosaneri website during your lunch break and then tap in www.bbc.co.uk and click on the cricket section. Learning one rule a lunchtime will build your knowledge to an acceptable level within a couple of weeks.

If you are particularly uncomfortable with one rather than the other, we have no problem in you specialising as long as you put in your fair share.

So please, no more excuses, as this abuse of the experienced players will no longer be tolerated. The Captain has a very difficult job on the day, and not having umpires or scorers is a problem he could do without.
