Selectors hand over Pompey game

There are a few issues to tidy up in this week’s news round up.

Firstly, the match against Portsmouth University Old Boys has been taken out of the club’s agreed selection procedures. The match has an historical basis in which the match organiser Rob Tona has traditionally hand picked the side. The main reason for this is so that he can insure an equal contest.

Robsie will have full selection control over this game and his basis for selection will look for balance as he will know the exact strength of the opposition. The match will take the usual format of 2 innings of Twenty/20 with tea being taken at the half way mark. After match food will also be supplied in what has traditionally been a great day for the club.

Secondly, the aftermath of the match at Lincoln Road on Sunday has been very positive. Senior members of The Enfield Cricket Club hierarchy were so impressed with how things went on Sunday they have invited us back for another game this season. Bar takings were up and they were totally refreshed by our keenness and enthusiasm for the game even in the face of a heavy defeat. Enfield have assured us that for the next match they will pick a more appropriate team to ensure competitiveness. The date of the second match will be confirmed as soon as possible.

And finally, testing has been undertaken on PA systems for forthcoming Twenty/20 matches. For those that have not experienced the delights of this format of the game, it should be explained that each batsman goes out to bat with a theme tune. Everything is more or less in place now, so you must make sure you get your tune to club officials as quickly as possible. This will enable ample time for your tune to be added to the club’s music library.

If you do not get your tune in, the club will have to select one for you !
