The Rahul factor is decisive

Saturday witnessed one of Rosaneri's best ever results against a polished adult only league XI, even though some of our bowlers were not at their best.

It could have all been so different though as the home team got off to a flyer against a tepid opening attack. In fairness the footing was causing issues at one end and the head wind was ferociously strong at the other. Indeed some of our more experienced cricketers were predicting a chase of just over 300 at one point !

One of the real turning points came when the “Go to man” Bonehead did what he was asked to do and snaffled the dangerous looking opening bat. This certainly was the highpoint for Bones as after this he was told directly by the skipper that he was “bowling tripe” and then he was assaulted by big Mike in a scene direct from WWF !

Then enter stage door right the hero of Rosaneri land, the great Rahul Hore.

Rahul bowled a beautiful line and length, and before long his class was collecting wickets at a match winning pace. By the close of the innings he had secured a new club record haul of 6 wickets for a miserly 19 runs.

Jim bowled very tidily to keep the runs down against a team who genuinely batted down to number 10 and Mat came back to complete a brace of wickets from the other end.

Tea was another splendid affair and then it was on to the chase.

Mr Bell and Big Mike were at their absolute best to score runs and see off 16 overs of unchanged pace bowling on a bowler friendly pitch. They didn't quite do it as Bell was a victim of the pitch, but Tony came in and put in a magnificent shift to get within 2 balls of the end of the attack.

That launch pad put the pinks in a great position as the two best bowlers had gone and plenty of wickets were still in hand.

Shell, Marcus and Kurt all did magnificently to keep the run rate on track, but it was left to the main man to come in and finish the job as you would expect in all good fairy tales.

Not only did Rahul get the job done, he also did it with panache. Mat deserves special mention as well for a perfect supporting knock that cashed in the bad balls and resolutely defended the good.

This win must not be underestimated as it could well even be our best to date.
