Tight contest ends in defeat

The traditional curtain raiser to the season had its usual ebb and flow, but this year the Pinks were not able to pull off victory.

The honours went to the home side in a game that they thoroughly deserved to win, but Rosaneri certainly played their part in the intense drama.

Rosaneri chose to bat and never really got into a commanding position. Tony, Shell and Marcus all perished cheaply, but Mr Bell eventually got things going with a quickfire 20.

Meanwhile Mike had been hibernating for the first 15 overs, but with Bell's departure he awoke from his winter slumber to significantly step up the run rate when Rosaneri most needed it.

Supporting roles of note came from Sinders, Cuz and Mat.

Mike went on to record a magnificent 72 which not only helped us to post a total, but also gave us a real chance of winning.

Sinders had to retire while batting due to a back problem and played no part in the field.

The bowling got off to a good start, but difficult partnerships got in the way of real momentum building.

Nazeing kept nudging in front for us to peg them back, but the killer partnership came when the free hitting wicketkeeper smashed a series of 4's to take the game away from us.

Rosaneri were not done for though and late wickets set up a tense finish of 4 runs being required with one wicket left.

There was a difficult chance that hit Nick's boot and fell to the ground, but that was as close as we got.

Mat and Gareth got their bowling campaigns off to a good start with 3 wickets each and Cuz bowled very nicely to notch an early brace.

The fielding was not our best with the captain in particular setting a bad example. This will need working on in the coming weeks for the whole team.

This wasn't a brilliant start result wise, but we may have to wait a long time for another game as good as this.
