Packed house sees Rosaneri crushed

Rosaneri lost their second game in a row by a crushing margin at the hands of a far superior outfit. Enfield lined up with two star players and a great supporting cast of nearly men and talented colts.

However, The Pinks put up a magnificent effort and fought hard for every single ball. As a team the bowling effort was very good, as was the fielding, but the batting did come up a little short against an unforgiving attack.

The after match clubhouse banter was electric, and there could have been no better example of partly why we are embarking on this cricketing crusade.

Player notebook:

Downing – Back to his old self with the bowling and returned impressive figures. Something always happens when Jim bowls and this game was no exception. Took two wickets, but with a few pairs of safe hands could have easily ended up with six. Surprisingly also opened the batting, but failed.

Shuttlewood – Fielded well, and dismissed by a good ball early in his innings. Realistically now needs to drop down the order to find some form with the bat.

Cully – Took on the Chris Tavere role and supported Bloater as he cut lose. But when he went for the accelerator he lofted a catch to cover.

Underwood – Kept wicket with the minimum of fuss and then exploded with the bat in front of a packed Lincoln Road. Rapidly becoming Rosaneri’s mailman as he always delivers.

Cox – Brilliant in the field, and nearly smashed through Mike Gatting’s fence in an attempt to save a run. Looked nervous when bowling, and probably too confident when batting.

S.Shewring – Fantastic with the ball and really deserved more reward. His line and length were thoroughly consistent. Also batted with courage and hit four nice boundaries.

Ni.Shewring – Got his bowling together this week, and like Jim, always looks likely to make things happen. However, must really work on keeping the wides down. Joined The Primary Club when batting, thanks to a ball that did loads off the pitch.

Rose – Not his usual self bowling, and just as he had got his act together in a second spell took a nasty blow to his eye. Just when he had seen enough blood for the day, Slaps gave him a nose bleed by batting him at 8.

Freeman – Didn’t get the breakthrough Rosaneri required with the ball in his opening spell, but came back at the end to keep things tight. This week again showed his worth with the bat by hitting a solid 16.

McHugh – Got his wicket, but didn’t really hit the mark like the opening match. Probably feeling the effects of playing the day before though.

Sparrey – Captained superbly apart from the crazy decision of batting himself at 11. This will surely go down in history as one of the worst decisions a Rosaneri Captain has ever made. Bowled really well and returned impressive figures to add to his super all time average.

Man of the Match – Still to be voted on.
