Strong Enfield side put Rosaneri to the sword

The rightful balance of the cricketing universe has been restored as the mighty Enfield put Rosaneri firmly in their place.

The quickness of the agreement to a 40 over game should have given things away earlier in the week, but the publishing of the team sheets made Rosaneri fans eyes water as the home side contained no less than 4 past or present 1st teamers !

From the very first ball class told and within 15 overs the Rosaneri top order had been obliterated.

At 53 for 6 charity day looked in danger of being wrapped up before the Bouncy Castle had been inflated.

However, Ian and Marcus began the rebuilding and the good work was continued by Rahul and Jim who put on 82 for the 8th wicket. Rahul in particular deserves special mention for taking care of a threatening leg spinner, which paved the way for Jim to go on and make fifty.

A respectable 193 was posted and the big crowd at least had a second innings to watch.

The Rosaneri attack nearly got off to a dream start, but the normally reliable Andy Underwood dropped a good chance off the very first ball. Immediate punishment followed with 11 being taken off the next 5 balls.

A quick double breakthrough put Enfield momentarily on the back foot at 25 for 2, but an outstanding 50 from the 1st team skipper soon put the favourites completely back in control.

Our very own Graham Sparrey added a stylish and patient 50 for his parent club and kept his cool throughout despite Mike’s sledging.

Further wickets were taken, but it was never enough to contain a powerful batting line up of chasing down a sub 200 at Lincoln Road.

Enfield won the cricket match, but hopefully Charity won the day.

A full report of the fundraising will appear online soon.
