Vs Knebworth

Sparrey – Captained in a very calm and organised fashion to give the pinks the best chance possible of winning in a fair fashion. Batted with the energy required, but fell victim to a well planned trap.

J. Shewring – Looked to score quickly as usual, but lost his leg stump by playing round a straight one.

Leigh – Stood in behind the stumps and did a fantastic job with a virtual faultless display which was crowned by his top take of an early snick. Didn’t get the breaks when batting on a day when the club could have done with some aggressive stroke play.

Mi. Freeman – Batted in the accustomed Mike fashion to record a very good 70 runs without giving the oppo a hint of a chance. It wasn’t quite Lindsell, but a little less caution could have returned a century and legend status. But then again, Mike is already a legend simply for being Mike. Well done sir.

Rose – Put in another fine effort with the bat to return vital runs to the chase in relatively quick fashion. Also pouched two top catches for an all round top performance.

M. Cox – Took a sensational sliding catch and really got stuck into the task in hand with the bat. This boy is a real winner as the hurt was written on his face when he should have been celebrating a great personal score.

G. Cox – Bowled really well for five overs then fatigue set in and ruined his figures. But forget all that, it was the batting that stole the show. The first six lifted flagging pink spirits, but the second with the very next ball was so brutal it could have destroyed a shed with a direct hit ! Gareth really is the John Smiths of batting.

Downing – Bowled well  for 5 overs and then looked tired in the last two. Chopped on with a slog after two balls while batting.

Sindrey – Bowled nicely with no reward as usual. Gave it a go with the bat under unrealistic pressure.

Ma. Freeman – Bowled the best spell of the season in a top example of pace bowling. Grabbed two classic fast bowlers wickets with an edge to the keeper and an edge to slip. This really was coaching material.

Ni. Shewring - Started slowly, but soon got back into the swing with another nice brace of wickets with classic leg spinning. Had a go with the bat, but the timing was out with over a year in the batting wilderness.
