Respect !

This game was a very good reminder of how far we have come in the last 3 years.

The mighty Enfield literally had to beg us for a timed game and pleaded with us to bat first once we won the toss to make a game of it ! Who would of thought this possible 3 years ago ?

The amazing amount of respect shown to the pinks was fully justified when Jack and Big Mike made the scoreboard tick at a brisk pace with a wicket loss looking like a long shot.

Eventually the partnership was broken when Big Mike was caught and a mini collapse that claimed two Underwoods did put Rosaneri in a pickle.

However, Jack kept his head and went on to record his first fifty for the club, while Marcus came out with his “Big match head” on at the other end.

Jack succumbed soon after he raised his bat, but Jim steadied the ship in his usual fashion while Marcus got on with the business of posting decent total.

Marcus’ self belief visibly grew while he defended the good balls and smashed the ones he fancied. His maiden fifty came up with an imperious blow out of the ground for six !

A good looking total was posted at tea, but the bowlers knew it would be hard to take all 10 wickets.

The bowling couldn’t of got off to a worse start with Paul being swatted with ease to the shortish boundary and the run rate was alarming for the captain.

Gareth came on for a lovely spell to put a lid on the run rate and really deserved a wicket.

With a 100 opening partnership on the board and not a sniff of a wicket the pinks desperately needed a breakthrough. That breakthrough eventually came courtesy of a superb Mat Freeman catch off a Jim tempter. This totally derailed the home side and the Rosaneri gradually took control.

A late flurry of wickets with two in the last over for Ben Underwood gave extra shine to a very good draw for the pinks.

Steve Shewring must be mentioned for excellent captaincy and an excellent cameo with the ball just when the team needed a wise old head.
