A day of shame

On Friday night Rosaneri Cricket Club were soundly thrashed at the hands of the Edmonton County Teachers.

Not only were Rosaneri on the wrong end of some magical cricket, but their discipline was nowhere near the usual high standards that we have come to expect.

The temperature was massively hot and this may well have had something to do with frankly awful fielding from the entire Rosaneri team. Catches were dropped, not even attempted and the ground fielding was pathetic. The capping moment of the total horror show came when Shell somehow turned a catch and one run at best from a no ball into an addition of 3 to the scoreboard.

The Rosaneri innings had to get off to a sharp start, but it didn’t and wickets fell at regular intervals while the scoreboard ticked very slowly to a lofty looking target.

Captain Robsie tried his best and top scored while Rosaneri’s slim chance of victory disintegrated around him. The end came even before the allowed 20 overs which is a sin in its own right and Rosaneri’s darkest day was complete.

We must say a big well done to our opponents as they were very special on the night, but we must also look at ourselves and ask some very serious questions.

It is fine not to be good enough, but to lose with a lack of discipline, self respect and respect to the traditions of cricket is another.
