Top ground, top day, but no win

Defeat was the end result in this one, but we performed very well as a team and with a few more twists of luck we could have gone a whole lot closer.

The pitch was immaculate, the weather was glorious and a breakthrough in the second over put Rosaneri in dream land. However, two very talented batsmen then put the Rosaneri bolwers to the sword and a chase in excess of 250 looked a distinct possibility at the 10 over mark.

A hundred or so runs later the pinks secured their second wicket when Stephen Underwood struck from the clubhouse end. This turned the whole game on its head and Rosaneri came steaming back.

The run rate dropped, much to the captain’s satisfaction, and over by over Rosaneri started to believe that they had a chance.

The home team ended on 188 for 4 after 40 overs, and after a splendid tea the run chase was on.

The positive mood however lasted all of one ball, when Mr Bell had his stumps rocked for a golden duck. Robsie followed in the next over and when Kurt went the pinks were rocking at 2 for 3.

The most unlikely saviour strode forward though in the shape of Levsy.

Mike took the attack on and showed no respect to seasoned pros as he rode his luck to record a brilliant 22 in double quick time. This cameo galvanised the visitors spirits and the remaining batsmen kept the game interesting until Mat was superbly caught and bowled to bring down the curtain down on a fantastic day.

Gareth also deserves particular mention for a typically abrasive 27, and who knows what Stephen could have achieved if the last wicket hadn’t of tumbled at the other end.
