Bloater Not Out

Rosaneri Cricket Club have found themselves at the centre of one of the biggest sporting injustices of all time. Last Saturday’s game in Tendring was lost in a single disastrous moment that should never have happened.

In form and set for a big score Bloater was bowled by a ball that bounced 3 times before rolling along the floor to knock off his bails. Not knowing the rules and full of politeness he gently walked off for an early shower. This was a massive blow and ultimately took away any winning chance that the pinks had.

However, doubts about the dismissal started to surface on the journey home and gathered pace throughout the week. The clubs legal experts then took the matter up and it can be revealed that Bloater was NOT OUT.

In fact, he was not out on 2 separate counts according to the laws of cricket. Firstly an umpire MUST call No Ball “If the ball bounces more than twice before it reaches the batsman”, and secondly, “If the ball rolls along the ground”.

The bowler in this case bounced the ball three times before it then rolled towards the stumps. Clearly a No Ball. Then once No Ball has been called the batsmen cannot be out if he is bowled. If the rules had been adhered to, Bloater could have carried on to secure an historic victory.

It is now too late to repair the damage, but we can all make sure that we brush up on the rules between now and the next game. Educational articles will follow over the next few days.
