If Rosaneri were England and Eastons were Australia in 3 months time or so we would be addressing Marcus as Sir Marcus.
As crucial innings go, this was as crucial to the match situation as you could ever imagine. Rosaneri had been asked to bat and found themselves at 4 for 3 and another run looked a million miles away. The captain’s thoughts had turned to pride rather than victory, but in came Marcus to construct an innings that changed the whole game on its head.
Eastons were bang on top and cruising, but Marcus got to work and in moments the momentum had completely swung the other way. At the other end, Mike admirably blunted the Eastons cutting edge.
Marcus unfortunately went for one swipe to many, but the tone had been set for Jim and Mike to put Rosaneri firmly in control.
Mike just fell short of a massively deserved fifty, while Jim went on to raise his bat just before the pinks declared at 179 for 9.
The mood was good at tea and Rosaneri took to the field full of spirit with the focus on victory.
Gareth as usual made the early breakthrough, and then Stephen came on to bowl an amazing spell that secured 4 wickets for 4 runs.
Everything went amazingly well and the Cuz reflex run out was the icing on the cake and the point when the pinks knew they were going on to victory.
Mr Bell struck gold with his first ever ball for the club thanks to a superb Mat Freeman catch and things were wrapped up with Sinders taking a caught and bowled.
On paper this game could be viewed as a mismatch, but until Sir Marcus came to the party it was probably a mismatch the other way !
