Defeated, but not battered in Broxbourne

This was a super contest at a super venue against a great bunch of chaps. A top day indeed, but a result that we may not be so pleased with.

The day started well with the opening Rosaneri bowlers keeping a lid on the run rate and gradually building the pressure on the home side. Paul in particular bowled superbly well.

The rest of the bowlers all did well as well up to about the 20 over mark and a couple of wickets put Rosaneri firmly on top. However, two very good batsmen came together and the bowling slacked off slightly as Broxbourne turned the screw to put themselves just in front at tea.

Even though Broxbourne came back hard in the second 20 overs the Rosaneri fielders and bowlers can be pleased with their work. The batting standards were very high and on a small pitch 220 was not a mountain to climb.

Mr Bell looked superb early on and stroked a couple of 4’s in the very first over to get the pinks off to a cracking start, even though Sinders departed with the first ball of the second over.

Shell also looked in good order and the score built steadily until they both departed in quickish succession. This was a major blow and in truth we never really recovered.

The surprise package was Coxy who played some lovely shots and formed a handy partnership with Adam to give the traveling fans renewed hope.

Another flurry of wickets saw Jim and Mike thrown together with a major rebuild urgently required. The stabilization happened as expected and when Jim departed the acceleration button had been firmly pressed.

The Freeman brothers worked well together and got on with a bold attempt at winning the game. Belief was high on the sidelines until disaster struck when Mike run himself out dashing for a quick single. Mat soon followed and despite last ditch hopes being pinned on Gareth the game was up when Stephen was bowled.
