.......Mike Freeman

Today we take a closer look at Mike Freeman.

Mike enjoyed a very good season in 2009 that was only tainted by securing the Most Ducks award.

350 runs at an average of 18.42 was a great return for an opening batsmen up against some excellent opening attacks. Mike scored two fifties with a best score of 65 not out.

The ducks were a negative feature of the season, but he will learn from each and every one of them and in the long term become a stronger batsman.

While considering future mental strength, Mike will be top of the class after enduring the booing of Rosaneri fans for his laboured innings against Lindsell. Incredibly that innings at Lindsell was probably Mike’s best and worst moments of the season all wrapped up in a crazy hour or so !

Mike’s all round contribution must not be underestimated as he had a solid season in the Golden Fielder competition and also picked up a valuable 8 wickets during 2009 with a best of 3 for 17.

The body does struggle with being a genuine all rounder, so Mike normally has to do one or the other. But this does offer any captain great flexibility.

There are plenty of targets for 2010 with Mike being a live contender for all batting awards as well as one of the favourites for the Golden Fielder. However, the real target must be to avoid being the first person to retain the Most Ducks award.
