Catching machine secures the silver

The overall catching and fielding for 2009 improved throughout the club, but the race for the Golden Fielder was more or less over by mid July.

The man in command from along way out was Nick Shewring, and he went on to set a new club record of 16 catches in one season.

Nick’s standards at one point were so high that other fielders were intimidated by his mere presence on the field. He hadn’t dropped a single chance until the game against Holtwhites, when he amazingly spilled 3 in one day.

That game was eventually proven to be an isolated blip as he completed the rest of the season without dropping another chance.

Last year’s winner Jim made a good fist of defending the title by finishing second and accumulating 12 points, but he literally couldn’t keep up with the relentless Shewring catching machine.

Tony also deserves strong applause by securing third place with an extremely respectable 10 points.
