Pinks throw it away

The curtain finally came down on the 2009 season with a great day out in the October sunshine at Belhus cricket club.

In truth Rosaneri should have got much closer to a positive result, but it didn’t seem to matter against a great bunch of guys in superb surroundings.

Stephen Underwood and Cuz opened the bowling and both took a few overs to warm up, but once the line and length was established they both returned good figures to restrict the home team on a pitch that looked like it would yield plenty of runs. Stephen Underwood must take particular credit for bowling a spell of 21 consecutive dot balls.

Jim and Nick carried on the good work and wickets started to tumble as the pressure built on Belhus in their attempt to post a competitive total.

The remaining overs were shared around and it was the Freeman brothers who concluded the innings. Mat bowled brilliantly to strangle the runs, while Mike did his best to get them to 200 and somehow snaffled a career best 3 fer !

Tea was a splendid feast of plenty and could well have been responsible for dulling our competitive edge.

The Rosaneri openers got off to a nice start, but a big blow was registered when the in form looking Mr Bell holed out. Mat playing as a batsman came in and looked very comfortable as the Freeman’s confidently had the pinks at 51 for 1 after 11 overs.

Then came an eight ball collapse that claimed three top batsmen. First of all Mat was bowled by a jaffa, Bloater played his worst shot of the season to lose his leg stump, before Mike was out foxed by the spinner at the other end.

Wickets kept on tumbling, but a couple of cameo knocks from Levsy and Gmul gave the Pinks at least some hope of making the collective ton.

Stephen Underwood and Jim batted sensibly to add some respect at the end of a disastrous team batting display.

At tea Rosaneri were probably favourites to win and in truth threw it away with the bat.
