This was a funny old game that was very pleasant, but it somehow lacked a dynamic edge and slowly but surely petered out into a draw.
However the proceedings were kept very interesting throughout though by the maverick captaincy of Sheridan and the relentless banter conveyor belt of Tills.
Rosaneri were asked to bat and set about building a nice total to enable them to have a go at bowling the Bay out.
Wickets did tumble early on, but the middle order batted very well to record some nice personal scores and propel the total to a very respectable 202 in 39 overs with Cuz and Jim both recording 50’s.
The Botany Bay reply started at a blistering pace and within 10 overs they had smashed 80 odd runs for the loss of only 2 wickets. This should have set up a victory march for the visitors, but a combination of good bowling from Nick and Sinders and a lack of belief meant the game ambled to the inevitable draw.
It was a strange effort from Botany Bay as with 20 overs to go they only needed 95 with 8 wickets in hand. They didn’t take a single risk and they actually got quiet close to winning without really looking to do so ! To be fair though, they did have a lot of youngsters and we were nowhere near good enough as a unit to get all 10 wickets.
This result does show though that we have come a long way since our formation as we used to be the team hanging on for a draw.
