At least charity benefited from a total mismatch

Sunday was a great day for the family and for fund raising, but certainly not a great day for fans of watching cricket.

After the 2nd over of the day it was clear that Rosaneri were going to get thrashed at best and humiliated at worst. The Enfield team had been loaded with overseas league players and other assorted quality to make the cricket contest a fiasco.

In true Rosaneri sprit though the guys knuckled down and gave it their best shot in an attempt to make a game of it.

Enfield raced to 100 without loss after only 12 overs, but then a steady trickle of wickets with some tight bowling gradually hauled the pinks back into the land of respectability.

A declaration with 5 overs to spare of their allocated 40 was either an act of embarrassed generosity or an insult to the players and spectators of Rosaneri. Either way, it set the pinks a huge 242 for victory.

The Rosaneri reply got off to a terrible start when Mr Bell was bowled by a jaffa in the first over. Shell and Big Mike got their heads down and gradually built a platform for an assault on the victory target.

Bloater looked like a man on a mission, but unluckily holed out to a fielder on the rope.

Coxy batted beautifully to record a seasons best of 19 against good bowlers and fielders and others chipped in to give Rosaneri a respectable total under the circumstances.

Mat Freeman deserves a mention for smashing a late flurry of runs and never looking like getting out in what turned out to be his best ever score for the club.

We must thank our hosts for allowing us to stage the event at Lincoln Road, but we may hold off from thanking the selection committee at Enfield for naming such a red hot line up !
