A top effort all round

Tyrrell – Had a quiet game by the big mans standards as he was feeling under the weather. Handed the keepers gloves over to Kurt and then fell as an early victim to a good bowling attack.

Mi. Freeman – Fielded very well taking two catches and making a great diving stop. Looked in super touch with the bat before making a slight mistake when a big score looked very much on the cards.

Alfieri – Took a lovely catch on the boundary that would have been a lot easier to drop. Batted with grit and patience to record a very nice 27 even though the runs were not as free flowing this week.

Jones – Ground fielding was of the highest order and managed to save numerous runs. Elegant as usual with the bat in the face of some very tidy bowling and put down nice foundations for the final chase.

Akyuz – A sensational return to wicket keeping after a near 20 year absence. Took two good keepers catches and made a difficult stumping look simple. Top work.

Sparrey – Bowled a spell that is right up there with the club’s all time best. Lovely dip with a lethal bounce meant that 4 batsmen departed within a short space of time. Played an innings out of his normal comfort zone in order to chase victory.

Shuttlewood – Picked up a couple of wickets in a nice six over stint and could easily have had a third bar a dropped catch. Didn’t get going with the bat under the intense pressure of the chase.

N. Shewring – Not his best spell, but still managed to get a brace of wickets and asked the batsmen some serious questions. Took yet another catch and really must now be nailed on for the Golden Fielder. Fell for the cause with the bat, but still had time in the middle to smash an impressive 4.

Downing – Bowled a tidy spell after a shaky start, but failed miserably with the bat with a first ball dismissal.

G. Cox – Got the match off to a good start and bowled an outstanding opening salvo. Didn’t get the wickets that his bowling deserved and on another day could easily have ended up with multiple victims. Went out to bat totally pumped and smashed two 6’s in his first two balls and went down fighting in the penultimate over.

Ma. Freeman – Bowled nice enough, but forget that. It was his batting that stole the show. Smashed it from ball one and got the crowd buzzing with a cavalier attitude that nearly got the Pinks over the winning line. A magnificent effort.
