Notes of a good win

Tyrrell – Seemed a little jet lagged when keeping wicket, but sprung to life with the bat to smash a brilliant 74 not out. He did take a little while to get going with the bat, but this was probably down to not even having a net for 4 weeks which made the innings even better.

Alfieri – Looked settled and ready for a nice score until one of the wily old foxes rattled his timber. 100% accurate in the field.

Mi. Freeman – May or may not have been unsettled by dropping down to 3, but looked in good touch until getting cleaned out by the ball of the day that swung in the air and then nipped off the pitch. Full of dives and chat in the field as usual.

Leigh – Looked a natural at slip and was very unlucky not to pouch a stunning diving effort. Batted with business like efficiency to get the pinks home with the minimum of fuss to end with 35 not out.

McHugh – Just saved from the dreaded fresh air game by a polite over at the close of the Harlow Vets innings. Did take a nice catch while fielding though to go home with more than just a great day of banter.

Shuttlewood – Got back into his bowling nicely after a long lay off and ended up with superb figures. Very energetic in the field and unlucky not to get a go with the bat considering he was down to bat at six.

Downing – Bowled a goodish 7 overs, but although the figures were better he bowled nowhere near as well as last week. Ground fielded well, but dropped a second catch in two weeks.

Rose – Bravely came on to bowl against the only big hitter and bowled very well. More impressive though was the point and a half he picked up in run outs. The solo effort although in slow motion was almost professional like.

Ma. Freeman – Bowled a superbly economical 8 overs and hardly gave the batsmen a ball they could hit. Unlucky as usual not to get any wickets, but did find a couple of edges that on another day would have ended in results.

Mitchell – Sensational bowling at a genuine key time of the Vets innings when an aggressive looking batsman was looking to get on with things. Bowled Yorker after Yorker to keep the runs down to an amazing 1 an over.

N. Shewring – Took a stunning haul of 3 wickets at a venue where wickets are usually at a premium. Kept nagging away and making the batsmen think about everything they did. Took yet another breathtaking caught and bowled to romp clear at the top of the Golden Fielder.
