A great all round display

Tyrrell – The pitch and its low bounce accounted for a dreadful day on the byes front, but did manage to pick up two cheeky stumpings in the final overs. Graham’s batting was of the highest quality as he took the game to the opening bowlers and set up the win as a possibility.

K. Mully – Fielded with real determination and nearly took a fabulous catch running towards the boundary over his left shoulder. Batted in the fashion that only Kev can. He smashed the first ball from Bob Willis for 2, but then got caught trying a repeat on ball two.

Sindrey – Answered the call at very short notice and finished his bowling spell with a well deserved wicket, but could easily had have had more. Didn’t look in the same kind of form with the bat as the week before, but did form a nice partnership with Mr Bell to get the scoreboard ticking.

Tona – A picture of serene calmness while batting and blocked out a sustained spell of accurate stump bowling. Did a great job in blunting the North Weald spirits to set up the shot makers in their bid for glory.

Jones – Bowled a lovely little 4 over spell to frustrate the home batsmen and then crafted an elegant 48 with the bat. Adam played some glorious shots direct from the textbook and was most unfortunate not to record another 50 at his favourite ground.

Downing – Got to have a little go with the ball again this week and bowled very well to tie down the batsman and even managed a couple of maidens. Took a while to get his eye in with the bat, but did get going to plunder valuable runs in the pursuit of victory.

Ni. Shewring – Picked up a late brace of wickets and pouched two catches to charge up the Golden Fielder table. Batted with defence not being an option and smashed quick runs to get the run rate to a manageable level. Rosaneri victory hopes disappeared though when Bob Willis yorked him.

Mi. Freeman – Put in a real shift to open the bowling and did the club proud. It may well have been the best opening spell we have seen all season. The ball was pitched up and on the stumps to give the batsmen a real going over. Thoroughly deserved two wickets and came very close to more. Batted for the win, but it was not to be.

Ma. Freeman – Bowled as tightly as usual but had his day in the field ruined by being cracked on the head by a powerful blow when fielding close to the bat. Managed to recover and bravely batted at the death to see Rosaneri to a famous draw. His marshalling of Gmul was particularly impressive.

Rose – Bowled a very tidy opening spell, but his real contribution was his Captaincy. Somehow managed to fuse fairness with a desire to achieve a result for the club. The spirit and energy was great throughout and the majority of this was down to the Rose style of captaincy.

G. Mully – Fielded well and bowled superbly in a very controlled spell that returned two wickets, but the batting was where he earned his RCC cap. Looked rock steady when he had to face the pick of the bowlers under intense pressure and looked like he had been doing it for years when he lit up a cigar at the non strikers end in the final over. Brilliant.
